Always Prepared

If you know me, you know I am a big fan of organization and being prepared. I figured I would post about what I have been doing to prepare for the stim/egg retrieval part of my IVF cycle.
  • Alarms and calendars galore! I have updated both personal and business calendars with my expected ultrasound/lab appointments. I have also updated my personal calendar with medication dosages and corresponding alarms set 15 minutes before the time they should be administered. Finally, I have a hard copy of the IVF calendar next to my meds.
  • Clearing my schedule a bit. I am attempting to not over schedule myself during the next 2-3 weeks.  This hasn't been difficult as during the stim cycle I will be having ultrasound/lab work done a total of at least 5 times.  Then you can add in my twice weekly acupuncture appointments and chiropractor appointment.  Ya, its pretty full already.
  • Found a designated "med spot" for the plethora of medication and supplies. I decided on the kitchen counter because the Follistim needs to be refrigerated and we will need a counter or table for preparation.  I separated syringes, needles, alcohol pads and band-aids into separate Ziploc baggies and placed everything we will need within the next week in a basket.  If it is not in our protocol for the next week, it is placed in the the cabinet above.
  • Stockpiled electrolyte water and coconut water. I have read that staying hydrated is extremely important to attempt to avoid the side effects of the medication. In addition, I will be stocking up on broths for after the retrieval.  These will also be key to avoid OHSS!  Although, my RE feels I am not at risk.
  • Maxi skirts and dresses because EGG MAKING BLOAT
  • I plan on making my very first bone broth to help my body "bounce" back after 8+ days of stimulation and an egg retrieval.  Bone broth is a super food and I think my body would more than benefit from it after going through quite a bit of trauma.  We need it back into shape quickly for the next retrieval.
  • Stress relief through twice weekly acupuncture appointments.  I cannot begin to explain how well this is working out for me. It truly is an internal massage. I will also schedule an appointment shortly after egg retrieval to help combat the bloating.
That's that! There are so many unknowns during an IVF cycle.  It feels good to be as prepared as I can be.  I will surely come back with some tweaks and additions after my first cycle.
