What the What?

What is IVF with PGD/PGS?

IVF is IVF - stimulate the ovaries with hormone injectables to produce (hopefully) lots and lots of healthy mature eggs, retrieve the eggs, egg meets sperm in a petri dish or egg is ICSI'd (hopefully) you will wind up with good quality fertilized eggs and then transfer the fertilized embryos to the uterus for (hopefully) implantation and in 9 months (hopefully) a take home baby.

Get the gist?

IVF is the only way one can go through PGD/PGS.  Without IVF there is no PGD/PGS.

PGS/PGS stands for preimplantation genetic diagnosis or preimplantation genetic screening which means prior to transfer of the embryo the embryo or egg is tested for genetic/chromosomal issues or a specific disease

The embryo or egg needs to be biopsied, then the biopsy is sent to the genetic lab for testing.  You then find out if there are any genetically normal embryos  to implant and (hopefully) there is an embryo of good quality that is also genetically normal.

As you can see we will be running on lots of hope and faith the next few months.
